BREWERS CHOICE
East India Pale Ale
You will need:
1 Can Blackrock East India Pale Ale
1kg Liquid Light Malt
250gm Dextrose
1 Lager/Pilsner Grain Pack
1 Pale Ale/Bitter Grain Pack
25g Goldings Hops Pellets
15g Fuggles Hops Pellets
1 Packet Safale SO4 Yeast
Procedure:
1. In advance, chill 5-10 litres of water in closed containers in a fridge*
2. Place Grain Packs and 1 litre of hot tap water in a bowl and steep for 30 minutes.
3. Strain the grain through a sieve into a saucepan. Rinse the grain with another 1 litre of
hot water and collect this liquid in the saucepan as well. Bring the liquid to the boil.
4. Once boiling, add Goldings Hops Pellets and boil for 10 minutes.
5. After boiling for 10 minutes, turn off heat and add 15g Fuggles Hops Pellets.
6. Tip East India Pale Ale and Liquid Malt into the fermenter, then pour in hot wort. Use
some to rinse the can. Stir until all is dissolved.
7. Add cold water to make up 20 litres** at 20-25 °C and stir vigorously for 5 minutes.
8. When surface is foamy (wort is aerated), sprinkle on Safale Yeast and stir gently.
9. Seal fermenter and store in cool conditions ***
Notes:
* Use sterilized containers with lids. Do not leave your fermenter to cool before adding yeas, as this increases the chances of an infection.
Use the chilled water to reach a satisfactory temperature and add yeast immediately.
** Make only 20lts to produce stronger hop bitterness and flavour.
*** Try to maintain a cool, even temperature in the fermenter of 18-22°C. Place your fermenter on a cement slab, or wrap it in a towel with
one end in water. Use a Brewers Choice Brewing Thermostat and old fridge for optimum brewing conditions.
