You will need:
Blackrock East India Pale Ale kit 1.5kg
500g Dry light malt extract
500g Dextrose
1 x Lager/Pilsner Grain Pack
1 x Caramunich Grain Pack
5g Cascade & 5g Amarillo hops (5 min boil)
5g Cascade & 5g Amarillo hops (0 min boil)
*5-10 ltrs chilled water
1x Safale US-05 Ale yeast
Procedure
1. In a bowl, add Grain packs with 1.5lt hot tap water and mix well. Steep for 10-20 minutes.
2. After steeping, pour grain and liquid through a strainer and collect the liquid in a saucepan. Rinse the
grain with approx 1.5lt of hot water and collect the liquid in the saucepan. After rinsing, discard grain.
3. Bring resulting liquid to the boil and add 5g Cascade & 5g Amarillo hops. After boiling for 5 minutes,
turn the heat off, add 5g Cascade & 5g Amarillo hops to saucepan and stir. Allow to sit for 5 minutes.
4. Add 500g Light Dry Malt Extract, 500grams Dextrose and Blackrock East India Pale Ale kit to the
fermenter. Use the liquid from the grain to rinse out the tin. Add the remainder of the hot liquid to the
fermenter and stir well.
5. Add chilled water to fermenter and stir well. Top up to 22 lt with tap water, stir well and sprinkle
Safale yeast onto the surface of the liquid. Ferment at 18 deg C. for best results**.
Notes:
* Use sterilized containers with lids. Use the chilled water to reach a satisfactory temperature and add yeast
immediately.
** Try to maintain a cool even temperature in the fermenter. Use a Brewers Choice Brewing Thermostat with an
old fridge for optimum brewing conditions all year round.
