(Bavarian Wheat Beer)
You will need:
1 Can Mangrove Jack Bavarian Wheat
500g Dried Wheat Spray Malt
500g Light Dried Malt
40g Hersbrucker Hop Pellets
Safale WB-06 Yeast*
Dextrose 200gm (optional)
Procedure:
1. In advance of preparing recipe, chill 5-10 litres of water in closed containers in a fridge**
2. Place Wheat malt, Dried malt and 30gm Hersbrucker hops in a saucepan with 2 litres of
water.
3. Bring to the boil, stirring occasionally and simmer for 5 minutes
4. Add further 10gm Hersbrucker hop pellets and remove saucepan from heat
5. Cool the mixture and add to your fermenter with the can of Mangrove Jack Bavarian Wheat
(Add the Dextrose if desired)
6. Top up to 23 litres using the chilled water, stirring vigorously to aerate.
7. Add Safale yeast, seal fermenter and maintain 18 – 21ºC temperature***
Notes:
* Use a Safale WB-06 for authentic Wheat beer flavours. For a more neutral flavour, use Safale US-05.
** Use sterilized containers with lids. Use the chilled water to reach a satisfactory temperature and add yeast immediately.
** Try to maintain a cool, even temperature in the fermenter. The ideal temperature for Safale yeasts is 18-20°C. Place your fermenter next
to brick walls or on a cement slab. Wrap it in a towel with one end in water or use frozen drink bottles around fermenter, if the temperature
is too high. .Use an old fridge with a Brewers Choice Brewing Thermostat for ideal brewing conditions.
