You will need:
Mangrove Jacks Classic Gold Lager
500g Light Dried Malt
12g Cluster Hops
Lager grain pack (250g Carapils)
US–05 SafAle Yeast
Procedure
1. The day before…Place 10 litres (more in summer) of water in sanitised, closed containers in a fridge.
2. Place grains in a bowl and add 1 litre boiled, hot water and 500mls tap water. Steep for 10 minutes.
3. Empty contents of Mangrove Jacks ‘Classic Gold Lager’ can and 500g Light Dried Malt into a sanitised fermenter. Rinse the can with boiled hot water and carefully add this to the fermenter too. Stir to start dissolving.
4. Using a sieve, carefully pour contents of grain bowl into a saucepan and bring to the boil.
5. Once it has boiled for a minute or two (killing bacteria) you can turn it off and add the hops.
6. Add this hot liquid to the fermenter and give it all a good stir.
7. Add the chilled water & some tap water until you reach 23 litres at 20-22˚c
8. Thrash the liquid to create a thick froth, which add lots of oxygen to the wort (good for the yeast).
9. Record the Specific Gravity before sprinkling the yeast evenly over the foam.
10. Pop the lid on and place fermenter in a cool dark place. This yeast likes to ferment around 20˚.
11. Age in bottles at least four weeks before sampling, longer if you can. Cheers!
