Mini-Mash Porter Recipe
What you need:
- Morgans Queensland Bitter kit 1.7kg
- 2.0kg Australian ale malt grain
- 350g Caramalt grain
- 200g Medium crystal malt grain
- 150g Choc malt grain
- 150g Wheat malt grain
- 50g Roast barley grain
- 15g Williamette hop pellets (0 min boil)
- 1x Whirlfloc tablet
- 5-10 lt fridge cold water
- 1x Safale US05 Ale yeast
You will also need a thermometer, an insulated Mash Tun (an esky works just fine) and a large pot or saucepan (at least 12 litre capacity).
How To Do It:
- Pre heat mash tun with 5 litres of hot water for 5 minutes
- Mash in 8l of strike water to achieve a mash temp 68 deg.
- Mash for 60 minutes.
- Add 2.8l near boiling water to mash tun for mash out, mix well and leave for 10 minutes.
- Drain contents of mash tun to brew kettle
- Return 2l off the sweet wort to the tun to rinse the grain.
- Drain the tun into the brew kettle
- Add 8lt sparge water at 75-80 deg to the mash tun and mix well.
- Drain the tun into the brew kettle,
- Take 2l of the sweet wort and rinse the grain again.
- Drain contents of mash tun into the brew kettle
- Bring the wort in the brew kettle to the boil.
- Add 1 whirlfloc tablet to the brew kettle to boil for 15 minutes.
- After the boil, add Williamette aroma hops to the kettle
- Add the beer kit extract to the kettle and stir well.<
- Add cold water and wort to the fermenter and stir well.
- Top up to 20l and pitch the yeast.
- Ferment at 18 Deg for best results.
