Strong Roast Stout

You will need:

  • 1 x MJ Craft Series Roasted Stout
  • 1 Kg Stout Combo
  • This is a rich and thick, toasty stout. Put it down today and let it mature! Add a Dark Ale Grain Kit to add that hint of Chocolate.

  • 1 Kg of Liquid Amber Malt
  • 1 x Stout Grain Kit
  • 15g EK Goldings Hop Pellets @ 10mins
  • 15g Fuggles Hop Pellets @ 5 mins
  • 15g EK Goldings Hop Pellets @ 0 mins

 Procedure:

  1. In advance of preparing recipe, chill 5-10 litres of water in the fridge.*
  2.  Steep Stout Grain Kit in a bowl with 1 litre of hot tap water for 30 minutes.
  3.  Strain grain through sieve into saucepan and rinse with 1 litre of hot water into the saucepan.
  4. Bring grain wort to boil, add one 15g EK Goldings Hops and simmer for 10 minutes.
  5. Add the Fuggles Hops to saucepan and simmer for a further 5 minutes.
  6. Turn off the heat and add the remaining 15g EK Goldings Hops. Steep for 5 minutes.
  7.  Use the hot wort mixture to dissolve contents of the Roasted Stout satchel, Stout Combo and Liquid Malt in fermenter.
  8. Top up to 23L using chilled and cold water to reach a starting temperature of 20-24°C, stirring vigorously to aerate the wort.
  9. 9. Add the provided MJ Kit Yeast, seal fermenter and store in cool conditions **

Notes:

* Use sanitised containers with lids.  Use chilled water to reach pitching temperature and add yeast immediately.

** Try to maintain a cool, even temperature in the fermenter, ideally 20°C. Place your fermenter next to brick walls or on a cement slab. Put fermenter in a container, add some water, wrap it in a towel with one end in water, if the temperature is too high.  Use a Brewers Choice Brewing Thermostat and old fridge for optimum brewing conditions.
