 You will need:

  • Morgans Queenslander Gold
  • 500g Light Dried Malt
  • 12g Cluster Hops
  • Lager/Pilsner Grain Pack
  • MJ M84 Bavarian Lager Yeast

Procedure:

  1.   In advance, place 10 litres of water in sanitised, closed containers in a fridge.
  2.   Place Grain Pack in a bowl and add 1 litre tap hot water.  Steep for 30 minutes.
  3.   Strain grain through sieve into a saucepan and rinse the grain with 1 litre of hot water. Discard the grain. Bring grain wort to boil.
  4. Boil for 5 minutes, then turn off heat and add hops. Leave to sit for 5 minutes.
  5. Empty contents of Mangrove Jacks Classic Gold Lager can and 500g Light Dried Malt into a sanitised fermenter.
  6.   Add the hot wort to the fermenter and give it all a good stir. Use a little to rinse out the last of the malt in the Classic Gold can.
  7.   Add the chilled water & tap water to make up 23 litres at 20-22˚C*.
  8.   Stir vigorously, then sprinkle M84 Bavarian Lager Yeast** evenly over the foam.
  9.  Seal fermenter, fill the airlock and store in a cool dark place, ideally at 12˚C ***

Notes:

* Do not leave your fermenter to cool before adding yeast.  Use chilled water to reach a satisfactory temperature quickly and add yeast immediately.

** If temperature control is not available, an MJ M10 Workhorse yeast should be substituted.

** Try to maintain a cool, even temperature in the fermenter, ideally 18-20°C. Place your fermenter next to brick walls or on a cement slab. Put fermenter in a container, add some water, wrap it in a towel with one end in water, if the temperature is too high.  Use a Brewers Choice Brewing Thermostat and old fridge for optimum brewing conditions.
